Mrs. Madeline "Mal" (Corey) Stratios, 85 years, of Revere, died Thursday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late George Stratios. She was born in Caribou, Maine, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ayoucka (Alekel) Corey. She was raised in Caribou, Maine and was a graduate of Caribou High School. She has lived in Revere the past several years.
She was an active member of the Winthrop Senior Center, where she loved to play cards. She enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City and the Horizon's Edge Casino Boat. Mal enjoyed socializing on Revere Beach. She loved her family, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was employed as a social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 10 years. She was a waitress in the Bickford's Pancake House and Anthony's Hawthorne in Lynn before working for the Commonwealth.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Bonin and her husband Robert of Amesbury, Nikki Smith and her husband Richard of Bradford, six grandchildren, Nikolette Bonin, Peter Bonin and his wife Rebecca, Danielle Bonin, Michael Bonin, Jennifer Tremblay and her husband Derek, Stephanie Powell and her husband Adam, three great grandchildren, Olivia Powell, Hannah and Ryan Bonin. She also leaves a sister, Margaret Hightshoe of Fort Walton Beach, Florida and several special friends, nieces and nephews. She is the sister of the late Edward, Najeb, Frederick, George and Joseph Corey.
Private funeral services will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rte 129) Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Private visitation will be held on Monday morning before her funeral. Donations may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Hospice of the North Shore, Suite B102, 75 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA 01923 or St. Jude Children Research Hospital, Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
