Alexander Theodore Sampsonis, age 92, of Swampscott, formerly of Lynnfield, died Monday, November 16, 2009 in Kindred Hospital in Peabody, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Edith (Hodsdon) Sampsonis and the son of the late Steven and Alice (George) Sampsonis. Born and raised in Peabody, he was educated in Peabody schools. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Sampsonis was the founder of the Continental Restaurant on Route 1, in Saugus, which he owned and operated from 1953 to 1983. He enjoyed many things including golf, traveling, reading, especially about history and the Wall Street Journal, and cooking. He liked to tell stories and was a great connoisseur of food, wine and scotch.
Besides his wife Edith of over 52 years, he is survived by his children, Steven Sampsonis of Chelmsford, David Sampsonis of Salem, Patrice Bain and her husband Rick of Newburyport and Jennifer Sampsonis of Salem. He was the grandfather of Stephanie Sampsonis, Alex and Brianna Bain; brother of Callie Bartosik of Danvers, and the late Nick Sampson, Harry and Jimmy Sampsonis, Mary Stratos and Irene Criconis; several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN & RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St.,(Rt1A) Lynn on Saturday at 10AM. Interment will be in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9PM.
